Justin Calmar prend seul le train de Venise à Paris ; sa femme et ses enfants rentreront quelques jours plus tard. Dans son compartiment, un étranger lui fait raconter sa vie. Calmar a honte de sa complaisance, mais accepte la mission que lui confie l’inconnu : à Lausanne, où Calmar a deux heures d’attente avant sa correspondance, il doit retirer une petite valise à la consigne de la gare et la porter dans une rue proche, chez une certaine Arlette Staub.
Fatal temptation
Justin Calmar takes the train from Venice to Paris alone; his wife and children will return a few days later. In his compartment, a stranger makes him tell his life. Calmar is ashamed of his complacency but accepts the mission entrusted to him by the stranger: in Lausanne where Calmar has two hours of waiting before his correspondence, he must retrieve a small suitcase from the baggage room and bring it to a certain Arlette Staub, in a nearby street.

François Combe, acteur naguère célèbre en France, vit depuis six mois à New York, où il est venu chercher un second souffle et surtout étouffer le scandale provoqué par une liaison de sa femme, qui l’a quitté pour un homme très jeune. Fuyant sa solitude, il rencontre Kay, au milieu de la nuit, dans un bar. Ils lient connaissance : Kay n’a plus d’endroit où loger. François cherche à l’aider.
Encounter with Love 
François Combe, once a famous actor in France, has been living for six months in New York, where he came to pick a second wind and, above all, to stifle the scandal caused by an affair his wife was having with a very young man. Fleeing his loneliness, he meets Kay in a bar, in the middle of the night. They get acquainted: Kay has no place to stay. François tries to help.

M. Serge demeure au Relais d’Alsace depuis plusieurs mois et semble avoir quelques difficultés à régler ses notes de séjour. Une forte somme d’argent est dérobée dans la chambre qu’occupent au Grand – Hôtel (en face du Relais) deux riches Hollandais, M. et Mme Van de Laer. M. Serge est suspecté car il se retrouve, le lendemain du vol, en possession d’une forte somme d’argent. Arrivé de Paris pour enquêter, le commissaire Labbé subodore qu’un escroc surnommé « le Commodore » et qu’il a pisté autrefois, est mêlé à cette affaire.
Indelicate lookalike
Mr. Serge has been staying at the Relais d’Alsace for several months and seems to have some difficulty paying his bills. A large sum of money was stolen from the room occupied in the Grand – Hotel (opposite the Relais) by two wealthy Dutchmen, Mr and Mrs Van Laer. Serge is suspected because he is found, the day after the theft, in possession of a large sum of money. Having arrived from Paris to investigate, Commissioner Labbé suspects that a crook nicknamed “The Commodore” whom he tracked in the past, is involved in this matter.
