Une nuit, à Dieppe, à l’arrivée du bateau de Newhaven, Teddy Baster est assommé par Pitt Brown et coule à pic dans l’eau du port en entraînant avec lui une valise. Louis Maloin, qui a tout vu de sa cabine d’aiguilleur, la récupère à l’insu de tout le monde. Il se trouve alors, à son grand étonnement, en possession d’une fortune : le produit du vol que Pitt Brown vient de commettre à Londres au préjudice de Harold Mitchel, le directeur du Palladium où il était engagé.

Such a heavy secret
One night in Dieppe, after the arrival of the Newhaven ferry, Brown Pitt knocks down Teddy Baster who sinks to the bottom of the harbor waters, taking with him a suitcase. Unbeknownst to anyone, Louis Maloin, who saw everything from his controller’s cabin, recovers the suitcase. To his astonishment, he finds himself in possession of a small fortune stolen by Pitt Brown from Harold Mitchell, director of the Palladium in London, where Pitt Brown was engaged.
