Octave Fallut, captain of the trawler “Ocean”, was strangled and thrown into a bassin of Fecamp’s harbour upon arrival of his boat, after three months of cod fishing in the North Sea. The ship’s telegraph, Le Clinche, was arrested. An old friend of Maigret, a teacher in Quimper who knows well Clinche‘s bride, asks the famous Commissioner to prove Clinche’s innocence.
