Si a alguien no le gusta la novela negra, con tramas detectivescas, investigaciones y crímenes, siempre le quedarán las novelas de Simenon.
Son novelas de género que subvierten clichés, ejemplos de una literatura popular que va más allá de lo que el lector esperaba. Comprender y no juzgar: el comisario Maigret comparte esta divisa con el Simenon escritor, ciudadano, amigo y padre. Con una mecanografía tan compulsiva como las obsesiones de sus pequeños héroes cotidianos, el escritor belga radiografía todo lo que ve.

Georges Simenon es una de las plumas imprescindibles de la cultura europea del siglo xx. Su comisario, Jules Maigret, es uno de los símbolos de la mejor novela policial. Con él, la novela negrocriminal nos ofrece un nuevo punto de vista, más cercano y humano, del mundo del delito y los delincuentes.
Pero, aunque la mayoría de lectores lo conozcan como padre literario de Maigret, la narrativa de este autor imprescindible va más allá. Lástima que su prosa fluida y desesperanzada no llegara a obtener entre nosotros la acogida que merecía.

François Combe, acteur naguère célèbre en France, vit depuis six mois à New York, où il est venu chercher un second souffle et surtout étouffer le scandale provoqué par une liaison de sa femme, qui l’a quitté pour un homme très jeune. Fuyant sa solitude, il rencontre Kay, au milieu de la nuit, dans un bar. Ils lient connaissance : Kay n’a plus d’endroit où loger. François cherche à l’aider.

François Combe, once a famous actor in France, has been living for six months in New York, where he came to pick a second wind and above all to stifle the scandal caused by an affair his wife was having with a very young man. À la suite des retrouvailles de deux anciens compagnons d’études, le dentiste Bar et le médecin Boisdieu, l’un pratiquant à Cannes et l’autre à Nice, leurs enfants ont sympathisé: André, nature solitaire, qui vit replié sur lui-même, trouve en Francine une jeune fille pure, très spontanée, vivant dans un foyer uni, ce qui n’est pas le cas du sien. Un jour, à Nice, en compagnie de Francine, il voit sa mère sortir d’une maison et regagner sa voiture.
The son’s judgment
Following the reunion of two former classmates, dentist Bar and doctor Boisdieu, one practicing in Cannes and the other in Nice, their children have befriended: André, a young man of a solitary nature who lives inward, finds in Francine a pure and very spontaneous girl, who lives in a united home, which is not his case. One day in Nice, in the company of Francine, he sees his mother come out of a house and go back to her car.

… John Simenon gère l’œuvre de son père
Les chiffres donnent le tournis: 190 romans, 158 nouvelles, des récits, des articles, des pièces de théâtre. Plus de 550 millions de livres écoulés. Edifiée entre 1921 et 1981 l’œuvre de Georges Simenon (1903-1989) fait de lui l’écrivain contemporain de langue française le plus lu dans le monde.
Depuis 1995, c’est John Simenon, le troisième des quatre enfants, qui accompagne les destinées de Maigret et des 9000 personnages, nés sous la plume de son père. Une bibliothèque colossale, discrètement déployée à l’abri d’un immeuble de l’ouest lausannois. Et dans la voix de John Simenon tout à la fois admiration et tendresse filiale.

L’inventeur de Maigret raconté par lui-même. À partir d’extraits d’entretiens audiovisuels et radiophoniques de l’écrivain, émaillés d’archives et de photographies personnelles, des images des actualités de l’époque et de séquences de films adaptées de ses romans, Pierre Assouline tisse un portrait inédit de Georges Simenon.
Cette projection sera suivie à 16h00 d’une ► Rencontre Simenon avec Pierre Assouline et John Simenon qui évoquera son père.
