Fuyant sa solitude, il rencontre Kay, au milieu de la nuit, dans un bar. Ils lient connaissance : Kay n’a plus d’endroit où loger. François cherche à l’aider.

Following the reunion of two former classmates, dentist Bar and doctor Boisdieu, one practicing in Cannes and the other in Nice, their children have befriended: André, a young man of a solitary nature who lives inward, finds in Francine a pure and very spontaneous girl, who lives in a united home, which is not his case. Le 7 juillet, à Saint-Cloud, Mme Henderson, riche veuve américaine, et sa femme de chambre ont été sauvagement assassinées. La police arrête Joseph Heurtin, livreur, qui a laissé ses empreintes sur le lieu du crime. Reconnu sain d’esprit, Heurtin est condamné à mort le 2 octobre. Or, pour Maigret, Heurtin est fou ou innocent. Pour le sauver de la guillotine, le commissaire obtient des autorités judiciaires de le faire évader.

On July 7, in St. Cloud, Mrs. Henderson, a rich American widow, and her maid were brutally murdered. The police arrest Joseph Heurtin, a deliveryman, who left his fingerprints at the crime scene. Recognized as sane, Heurtin is sentenced to death on October 2. But for Maigret, Heurtin is either mad or innocent. To save him from the guillotine, the Commissioner obtains from judicial authorities the authorization to help him escape.

… John Simenon gère l’œuvre de son père
Les chiffres donnent le tournis: 190 romans, 158 nouvelles, des récits, des articles, des pièces de théâtre. Plus de 550 millions de livres écoulés. Edifiée entre 1921 et 1981 l’œuvre de Georges Simenon (1903-1989) fait de lui l’écrivain contemporain de langue française le plus lu dans le monde.
Depuis 1995, c’est John Simenon, le troisième des quatre enfants, qui accompagne les destinées de Maigret et des 9000 personnages, nés sous la plume de son père. Une bibliothèque colossale, discrètement déployée à l’abri d’un immeuble de l’ouest lausannois. Et dans la voix de John Simenon tout à la fois admiration et tendresse filiale.

Un dimanche, Andersen découvre, dans son garage, la voiture de Michonnet dans laquelle se trouve le cadavre d’un certain Goldberg, diamantaire à Anversois ; quant à la voiture d’Andersen elle est dans le garage de Michonnet.

Carl Andersen and his sister Else, both Danish, Mr. and Mrs. Michonnet, Oscar and his wife, these are the couples who occupy the three houses at the crossroads of Three Widows. On a Sunday, Andersen discovers, in his garage, Michonnet’s car in which lies the corpse of Goldberg, a diamond dealer from Antwerp; and Andersen’s car is in Michonnet’s garage.
At the Barbican 3, on October 4, 11, 25 and 26, at 16:00. They’ll be showing “Maigret sets a Trap”, “The Man on the Eiffel Tower”, “Maigret Sees Red” and “A Man’s Neck”.

À partir d’extraits d’entretiens audiovisuels et radiophoniques de l’écrivain, émaillés d’archives et de photographies personnelles, des images des actualités de l’époque et de séquences de films adaptées de ses romans, Pierre Assouline tisse un portrait inédit de Georges Simenon.

Deux jeunes noceurs endettés – Delfosse, un bourgeois désaxé et Chabot, le fils d’un employé – fréquentent à Liège « Le Gai-Moulin », une boîte de nuit où ils courtisent l’entraîneuse Adèle. A la fin d’une soirée qu’elle a passée, à une table voisine des jeunes gens, en compagnie d’un Levantin arrivé le jour même dans la ville, ils se laissent enfermer dans la cave de l’établissement afin de s’emparer de la recette. Dans l’obscurité, ils entr’aperçoivent ce qu’ils croient être un cadavre, celui du Levantin et prennent la fuite.

Two young indebted party goers – Delfosse, an off-axis bourgeois, and Chabot, the son of an employee – patronize the “Gay-Moulin”, a nightclub in Liège where they woo Adèle, a hostess. At the end of an evening she spent at a table near the young men with a Levantine arrived the same day in the city, they let themselves be trapped in the basement of the facility to grab the day’s earnings. La dernière fois que Maigret s’est rendu à Saint-Fiacre, c’était à la mort de son père. Il aura fallu que la police de Moulins transmette à la PJ une feuille quadrillée annonçant qu’un crime serait « commis à l’église de Saint-Fiacre pendant la première messe du Jour des Morts » pour que le commissaire retourne dans son village natal.
Where a dinner solves the enigma
The last time Maigret went to Saint-Fiacre was for the death of his father. It took the Moulins police to transmit to the Paris police a sheet of paper announcing that a crime was going to be “committed in the church of Saint-Fiacre during the first Mass of the Day of the Dead” for the commissioner to return to his native village.
